ACA Marketplace Enrollment Increased 18% From 2021

Nearly 11.5 million people selected a health plan nationwide in 2022

December 29, 2022The Biden-Harris Administration announced that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace enrollment has continued to rise. In 2022, nearly 11.5 million people selected a health plan nationwide for the 2023 year. This is 1.8 million more people than in 2021, which is an 18% increase in marketplace enrollment, compared to 2021.

“Unprecedented investments lead to unprecedented results. Under President Biden’s leadership, we have strengthened the Affordable Care Act Marketplace with continued record affordability, robust competition, and historic outreach efforts – and today’s enrollment numbers reflect that,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, four out of five customers will be able to find a plan for $10 or less. As we head into the new year, there is no greater gift than the peace of mind that comes with having high-quality, affordable health care. There is still time to sign up until January 15 – visit HealthCare.gov today.”

Under the Inflation Reduction Act, an enhanced premium tax credit has been extended for three years, which makes marketplace enrollment more affordable. The Biden-Harris Administration has made expanding access to affordable health insurance and lower healthcare costs a top priority. Due to strides made, the national uninsured rate has reached an all-time low.

CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure added, “This year, we’re so pleased to see so many new enrollees on Healthcare.gov, taking advantage of expanded financial assistance and new eligibility to purchase affordable, comprehensive health care coverage that they can use to help keep them and their families healthy. We look forward to a strong final month of Open Enrollment and encourage everyone who needs quality health insurance to visit HealthCare.gov and CuidadoDeSalud.gov to view plan options by January 15.”

People looking for affordable health care are encouraged to visit HealthCare.gov to check the health care coverage and marketplace enrollment options available to them. With the continuation of the enhanced premium tax credits, four out of five enrollees will be able to find a plan for $10 or less after the tax credits.

Affordable healthcare coverage is also being driven be competition. 92% of marketplace enrollees will have access to options from three or more insurance companies. It is also easy to compare plans to select the best option.

The HealthCare.gov enrollment remains open until January 15, 2023, for coverage that will begin February 1, 2023. To read the press release from HHA, please click here.
